Embryo development and survival in peripubertal ewe lambs

چکیده
Context Mating of ewe lambs can increase farm profitability, although uptake is limited by low reproductive success. Reproductive loss to Day 35 pregnancy in peripubertal greater than adult ewes; however, the precise timing this unknown.Aim We aimed define more clearly early embryo development and key times ewes. Methods Health embryos from naturally cycling crossbred ewes ~8months age were recorded. Following mating across 2years, assigned three groups (n=80–87 per group): assessed on 3 pregnancy, 14, or between birth. For 14 groups, humanely killed, microscope following recovery tract. Ultrasonography at around Days 70, lambing data, used assess third group.Key results By 22.9% ova released not present as healthy (P<0.05). Embryo survival tended (P<0.10) decrease further, with 34.0% (±4.5%) embryos. No was detected 35, whereas birth, an additional 6.8% occurred Attainment puberty prior introduction fertile ram did affect loss. Structures collected ranged one cell 12 cells: 11% (13/120) being cell; 49% (59/120) two four cells; remainder (48/120) least five six cells. Conceptus length 5.3 200.0mm, large variation within animals; within-ewe 67% between-ewe variation. Concentration progesterone time collection associated (P<0.001) developmental stage 3, but pregnancy. Conclusions primarily much before 3.Implications Improving oocyte oviduct quality important supporting normal fertilisation lambs, thus improving

Effects of restricted feeding of prepubertal ewe lambs on growth performance and mammary gland development.
The aim of this study was to determine the effects of restricted feeding before puberty on growth performance and mammary gland development in replacement ewe lambs. At weaning, 72 Dorset ewe lambs were assigned to one of the three diets: an ad libitum control diet with medium-quality forage (MQF; diet A-MQF); a restricted diet with the same forage as A, but less feed concentrate (diet R-MQF); ...
متن کاملPremature mammary development in ewe lambs exposed to an oestrogenic lucerne pasture
A report of mammary development in 6-month-old ewe lambs grazing lucerne on a commercial farm in North Otago provided an opportunity to investigate the possibility to use this as a tool to detect oestrogenic lucerne pastures. Of the 36 ewe lambs grazing lucerne at this farm, protruding mammary glands were visible in 19. In contrast, none of the 22 ewe lambs grazing grass had protruding mammary ...

متن کاملRelationships among ewe milk production and ewe and lamb forage intake in Targhee ewes nursing single or twin lambs.
Targhee ewes with single or twin lambs were used in four trials during early lactation through weaning to evaluate ewe milk production (MP), kilograms of lamb weaned, and forage intake by ewes and lambs. During Trial 1, ewes with lambs were individually penned, fed .45 kg of barley-ewe-1.d-1 and allowed ad libitum access to chopped alfalfa hay. Trials 2, 3, and 4 were conducted on three differe...
